An Artist's city

There has always been a debate over the statement 'art is an imitation of life.' If we consider this statement true it means that for an artist, his/her environment holds a lot of significance.

Art in India flourished a long time back in the rock paintings of the pre historic times. From the earliest civilization to the present day, art is part and parcel of the Indian way of life. In a city like Delhi, an artist gets the freedom to come face to face with this rich art culture. A Contemporary Artist in Delhi has all the resources required to practice his/her art.

Every artist was first an amateur, said Ralph Waldo Emerson and for an amateur, there is no better place than Delhi that offers so much to a creative mind. There are many monuments and famous ruins in the city that can inspire any artist.

An artist in Delhi has also access to various art galleries that feature the finest and master works of world-famous Indian artists. Works of Indian artists like Raja Ravi Verma, Rabindranath Tagore, Hamendra Nath Mazumdar, Jamini Roy, M F Husain, S H Raza and Anjolie Ela Menon are on display in the art galleries of Delhi. The Delhi Art Gallery is almost a museum that has the finest pieces of art by famous artists.

The various galleries and the growing number of art enthusiasts in the city make it comfortable for an artist to enhance his/her talent. Today, an average city dweller knows the importance of art and is ready to appreciate it.

Art is inspired by life and life is a complex mix of modernity and tradition in the city. An artist in Delhi can draw inspiration from the lush green surroundings or the four extreme seasons that the city witnesses every year.
